Old Photographs Taken
Since the Founding of this Church
Many thanks to Northeast Kingdom Genealogy!
We need information regarding the following photograph. Read below the photograph a question put forth by Bruce Filgate.

Thanks to Bruce Filgate for sending us this photograph!
From Bruce Filgate:
The attached photo (my collection) matches one on the table at the open
house. Enhancement of the writing on the back of the one at the open house has the following:
----------------
Mothers Day at Grace Mason Club
1914
Passumpsic Baptist Church
4th woman from left is
Mildred Swan Lackie (Elmer)
Holding Irene Lackie Somers
Irene born 1913
--------------
The Elmer above is Mildred Messenger Swan (1884 - 1957) husband Elmer Henry Lackie (1877 - 1955)
Irene Elizabeth Lackie (1913 - 1979) married Richard Ferguson Somers (1908 - 1986)
Mrs. Somers taught in the Passumpsic school, grades 5 - 8, then 4 - 8. Every Christmas her classes would perform a religious play in the Passumpsic Church. The podium in the sanctuary would be cleared, the tambour behind it rolled up, and a platform about the size of the podium set up behind the podium to extend its depth into the vestry, with curtains set up to bound the extension. There was never any discussion in those days about religion in the school, Mrs. Somers started the day with the Lord's prayer, the pledge of allegiance and a Bible reading (old testament and laws). She was also
the organist for the Barnet Center Church.
While I recall lots of flash bulbs going off during the plays, I have never seen any photographs of those events.
--------------
I have two questions,
1) From where did the photo with the id of these two individuals come into the church collection? My copy likely came from Lenton, possibly prior to that from Rundle.
2) Might anyone have either a more fully identified copy of the photo, or perhaps a membership list of the Grace Mason club for that era?
Sincerely,
Bruce Filgate

This photograph clearly shows the church and parsonage (building to right of church).

There are numerous very interesting old photographs and documents
on their site from the entire Northeast Kingdom of Vermont Region!

You can barely see the church's bell tower about 1/4 of the way over to the right, from left side and about midsection of top to bottom.
NOTICE the other steeple located to the right a bit and up the road (up the hill) from the existing church!
After some discussion, it was determined by Bruce Filgate and others that the building with the steeple to the right and uphill from the church is, indeed, the original church building! That particular building was apparently moved during the winter across the river to a location a bit north (northeast - toward Saint Johnsbury)! If anyone has any other information regarding this, please let us know and please let Northeast Kingdom Genealogy know as well (on their main web page you will find links to email those fine folks).
We are interested in any and all information people may have regarding our church's history!

Passumpsic Baptist Church looking northeast.
Unused postcard - This is the second structure, the first having been west and up the hill perhaps 300 yards from this location.
Many thanks to Bruce Filgate!
